Walkers

Chailey Commons are designated as ‘open access land’ (read more here) which means you may also use the many informal paths. However, we do ask that you follow any local path diversions around our ‘Wildlife Refuge’ areas that are marked during the sensitive bird nesting season from 1st March to mid-August each year.

Leaflets on self-guided walks around the Commons are available here: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/.

  • Please do not feed the animals. This will encourage loitering rather than foraging and greedy behaviour which could result in kicking and may harm the animal’s health.
  • Enjoy the ponies from a distance – please do not approach closely.
